Introduction to the History of Gryffindor

Through the history of time we find that the lion or the Panthera Leo has printed its paw on the civilization of many cultures. Mankind has had a long history with the king of beasts and it has been in many mythologies and stories all across the word.
The ancient Egyptians discovered the lion symbol is the guardian of the gates of dawn and the protector against snakes (how ironic). While in Balinese mythology, the lion was seen as a protective spirit for evil curses.
For centuries, the lion has inspired mankind with it's mystic powers to search for those new ideas and courage to uphold one’s idea. Ever since the lion became the symbol of our house Gryffindor, we as lions live up to that very mystic power. The sorting hat states that we lions are courageous, brave and daring. When Godric Gryffindor founded our house over a thousand years ago, the symbol of the lion inspired him and thus became our symbol.
Being located on the seventh floor past the portrait of the fat lady we find the common room of the lions indulged in the colours of scarlet and gold. HOL Gryffindor has always been the largest house in HOL ever since it was founded in 2001. The students have ranged from 300 to well over 3000. That is about 1/3 of HOL population! That vast amount has lead to the fact that Gryffindor has a large staff consisting of Profs, Prefects & Junior Prefects. With such a large staff one can only come to conclusion on one thing.... organized chaos and responsible sanity or insanity.
When it comes to Gryffindor there is a high probability you don't know the lot of us. Heck, most of us don’t even know the lot of us. However, with this creation of our yearbook, hopefully you will get to know us a little better and what being a Lion entails (oh hey a pun there...entails...TAIL. LIONS HAVE TAILS!! AHAHAHA. ok I will stop.) SO take a look around and browse through our history and other pages of our yearbook.

Many have passed through our halls....
There have been many students that have walked the halls of Gryffindor, slept in the dorm rooms of Gryffindor, even played a bit of mischief in the halls of Gryffindor. Most of those people have now graduated and moved on. However, there are a few that have stayed and volunteered to be part of Gryffindor and HOL staff.
For example, the picture to your left is that of now Prof. Paddy O'Brien and Prof. Miette Bynny. Back in 2001 they both started out as little meager Lions. However as time passed by, they both moved on to become professors and HOL Staff. Paddy and Miette were both professors in *gasp* Slytherin.
Paddy eventually became HOH of Slytherin and a member of the Head Office. However, he is now a retired HOH and is back to just being a Head Office member. Miette became a dHOH of Slytherin then moved onto HOH of Slytherin, but moved back to Gryffindor because the offer of Gyoza and crazy butterbeer and firewhiskey night parties in the Gryffindor Tower was just too tempting.
